Designing for the Modern Home
A Table with Character
The Nyhavn Dining Table reflects Finn Juhl’s evolving dialogue with functionality and form. While earlier designs were often sculptural and exclusive, this table marked a shift — a more accessible piece that still carried Finn Juhl’s artistic sensibility. Inspired by the clean lines of American modernism, he added his own refined detailing and craftsmanship.
The distinctive use of color, such as the vibrant orange and deep blue, illustrates Finn Juhl’s interest in the emotional effects of color — rooted in Goethe’s theory of warm and cool tones — and adds an expressive dimension to an otherwise understated design.
The elegant dining table can also be seen as Finn Juhl’s response to criticism of his earlier, more sculptural and exclusive designs.
